welcome to dullsville...

its that time of year again--the time to collect kitsch and wonderment in holiday motifs, and i'm happy to say that dullsville is back in new york city for the month! i ran across their store over a year ago when i friend and i were walking down 13th street and saw the big closing signs in the windows...i only wish i had known about it earlier. that day, i found a bunch of vintage vargas pinups and my pal went home with a 19th century stitched portrait.

but they're back for the month of december, and new yorkers- take notice! in addition to a staggering array of antique and vintage christmas ornaments, you'll find vintage wrapping paper, gift boxes, figurines of all shapes and sizes, light up owls, a strand of snowman head lights complete with felt hats on each one (sorry- i got those already!), and more...dan and barbara run the operation, and they're truly some of the nicest and most knowledgeable collectors you could hope to run into...here's the info, direct from their postcard:

come and hang with us!

dullsville annual holiday celebration

vintage ornaments, lighting, curios, artwork and unusual gifts

starting december 8th, noon to 7 every day until dec 31st

and to prove i'm not making this all up, some photos from my trip there this evening:

inspiration...

so i've really been pondering creating new products lately...scarves are definitely my favorite thing to do, but i'm wondering if i shouldn't add something else...it'll take some time, but i'm thinking about custom-colored lulette hats! and maybe something TOTALLY different like paper goods! i'm a meticulous virgo without a lot of time, so this will take awhile...

i've also had my nose in martha stewart living for the past two days! i never thought i'd be one to go for that sort of thing, but i LOVE it! i'm slowly turning into my mom...but in the meantime (while i ponder my fate of becoming my mother), i leave you with some inspirational photos for the upcoming holiday season:

i'm really into pink this holiday, and it looks like others are, too!

meet beth!

you may have noticed a change in all of the photos over at lulette...that's thanks to our lovely new model, beth! she was kind enough to take time out to have a little photo shoot with me in a park back in cincinnati while i was on a visit home...i met beth this summer while she was interning here in nyc, and was instantly taken with her her amazing illustrations/graphic design sense and cute-as-a-button look...yes, shes as sweet as she looks! thanks, beth!

on another note, its starting to get chilly here in new york...last night, i went through my closet and drawers to change out the warm weather wardrobe for the cold weather one...it seems like i keep getting things, and my room just doesnt get any bigger. yikes! so i'm off to beacon's closet today to try to sell off a few items...i also discovered that i have LOTS of scarves! (i knew there was a reason i started this business...ha) i think the thing i love the most about scarves and accessories is that everyone can enjoy them: no matter your look/size/whatever. everyone loves a scarf!

keeping my fingers x'ed that it isnt going to rain while i'm headed to brooklyn...

plushies galore!

one of my very favorite things to collect are handmade plush items....and owls...so today i wanted to share some of my current favorite purveyors of plush...and of course to wish everyone a super happy halloween!

this year, i dressed as isabella blow, and created a headpiece out of feathers and millinery wire...if you want to find out more about who isabella is, check her out on
wikipedia...and here i am dressed up this weekend at a party in brooklyn:

now, on to the plush!

this limited edition 'lucy owl' from anna chambers has me hooked already! and there will only be 500, so i'm going to have to get my hands on one now! you can find her at
grumbletoy!

marilyn patrizio makes super cute crochet guys! this was her stash she brought to renegade brooklyn this year, and i got the little pear on the right! check out her
blog to see what shes up to!

keeping in the halloween spirit, i picked up these little guys from
eternal sunshine...alicia is so sweet, and has the cutest little crochet guys! these have been a total hit with my friends...

an amazingly cute bird from dawn at lookwhaticando! i love her treatment of the eyes on all of her pieces...

have a great halloween, everyone! and if i come to your door, be sure you have these:

they're my favorite!

more autumn-ness

since i can remember, autumn has always been my favorite season of the year...its that excitement before all of the holidays and feasting begin..its all anticipation: of visits to/from loved ones, of hearty foods, and looking forward to the new year....and the LEAVES! oh, the leaves!

so i'm putting together a few images of fall, some natural and some commercial. hee hee.

i drove up to new hampshire with friends a few weeks ago, and the leaves were just starting to turn...hello, quaint!

sugar pumpkins in the store at the orchards we visited...note to self: i wish i could make little pumpkins on scarves...

okay, yes, its crate and barrel-- but hello- its cute!

nikki mcclure's book is fantastic...she describes the seasons so beautifully, and she makes me think of fall...

mirah & the black cat orchestra
'to all we stretch the open arm'
this is one of my favorite autumn things to listen to...especially in the early evening.

inaugural post!

hello everyone!

this is our new blog's official first post ever! hurrah!

its almost halloween weekend, and here in nyc its raining...hopefully it'll end soon, because there's lots of revelry to be had and its putting a major damper on it! (literally).

this fall, we did get together a few new designs that i'm really excited about...including our 'go nuts!' awesome smiley acorn scarf...this MIGHT just be my new favorite...i've been really into acorns in general lately, so feast your eyes on some of lulette's favorite acorns:

our acorns, of course!

super cute acorn pendants from http://executeme.etsy.com

the black apple has a cute acorn girl print...

super cute card from apak!

okay....time to go enjoy some halloween-ness....
